The Amazon basin was the inspiration for my latest design. This, the second longest river on Earth, has no bridges throughout its entire length. It always appears primative and magnificent and yet, a place out of time.

Near jewelled crystal waters, riverbanks and ponds, they restlessly patrol. Hunting on the wing in dashing raids they can be seen flitting accross these waters on balmy afternoons in beautiful colours and graceful flight.

With elegant long legs and body and four gossamer wings, the Damselfly appears.....................Out of the Blue

BLUE LAGOON

Blue Lagoon is constructed from hand knitted pieces and embellished with blue glass beads.

A lagoon is a body of water that has, over time, been cut off from the open sea by sand bars or coral reefs........the varying depths of the water are represented here by the shading of the fibres used.

Forget me not, Myosotis, with it's delicate hues of blues and pinks, is one of the prettiest garden flowers.

Here, I have hand knitted the background and used french knots for the flowers with seed beads for decoration.

This small bird, dressed in bright cobalt blue and orange, hunts for fish from riverside perches. Gone are the days, thank goodness, when their feathers were sought and used to decorate hats!

As twilight turns to night and sweeps her cloak around our Earth promising another day for us all, we should remember that life on Earth could so easily be taken away.
From skies to deserts, from forests to plains we must all bear the burden of responsibility. Keep the Oceans free from pollution to sustain the life within them and it is us, mankind, that is causing the polar ice caps to melt with future generations facing the devastating consequences.
Throughout the solar system it is our planet, Earth, that is by far the most beautiful and it is up to each and everyone of us to keep it that way.

Dessert Dreams consists of individual, hand knitted pieces with beading and free hanging pieces of wool fibre.

A small wooden pole at the top allows for wall hanging.

I have backed it with hessian to stop any stretching as it is fairly heavy.

These three designs are meant to be displayed together. The same wool has been used in all three but in each one I useda different knitted stitch. Individually they are 12 x 12 x 1". The title is meant to encapsulate the colours of the wool. They were all time consuming but the third one took the longest amount of time.

This piece of wall art started out as a trial square and gradually developed and changed the more work I did to it.

The name came to me because two of the corners look like fans although they are supposed to be ballet dress skirts !!!!!!!

I have no Irish connections I just felt this design worked. All hand knitted with beading. As with most of my designs, the knitted pieces are stitched to fabric and then attached to, ready to hang, canvas.

Almost finished! All hand knitted individual 'shells' and I will probably add a little seaweed. It's turning out to be quite heavy but I'm happy with the way it's progressing.

This is a circular piece of work and the diameter is 12 ins / 30 cms. Some shells are artistically acurate while others are more imaginative.

In the middle of adding seed beads in white and gold to represent sand in between the shells.

This is a piece of art I completed a month or so ago. It was intended to represent a small corner of an English country garden in the summer. Softest greens and pastels, all knitted and mounted on ready to hang canvas. Several leaves
have been appliqued to give added depth.

My next project

My next project is a stained glass church window using knitted pieces, applique and beading. I've started, I've completed the template and some of the glass. I have managed to find some great wool, rather metallicy so, hopefully, it should work well. I am always apprehensive at the start of something new, until it starts to take shape then I find new ideas all the time.

These designs are from a range called 'FLIGHTS OF FANCY'. All have a floral theme and most have one, or sometimes two, oversized butterflies.

The detail on the butterflies can be seen quite well here. Lots of decoration in the wings and body. The vase was easy I just used paint on a sponge and was pleased with the effect.

Although in the 'Flights of Fancy' category there is no butterfly!
As this developed it seemed to me to be like a floral display in a country church. A cool and shadowy recess where my butterflies would look out of place. The hand painted vase can be seen in more detail and each hydrangea head is decorated with a bead.

They consist of floral designs with oversized butterflies. Two of these designs were commissioned by a large hotel group for their foyer, unfortunately I cannot add those photos here.

ENDLESS BLUE

Probably my favourite. The inspiration for this work came from images of our Earth from space. Every time I see pictures from space I realise how breathtakingly beautiful our planet is.

The individually hand knitted pieces have been embellished with glass beads of blue and gold, shimmering like the sun on the endless blue of the oceans.

SILENT ARBOUR

Some of the leaves are hanging freely from the frame to give added movement. Lots of texture and assorted woolen fibres. The softest greens and muted browns form a sheltered leafy glade.

I finished this design the day the poor whale died in the river Thames.

These Wall Art designs take quite some time to complete. All the pieces must fit together, somewhat like a jigsaw puzzle, then each hand knitted shape is stitched to fabric. If beading is used then that is the next stage, finally the fabric is attatched to a canvas ready to hang. The sides are all covered so it can be viewed from all angles.

SANDSTORM

The hot, dry desert wind has whipped the sand into a frenzied, golden veil. The twists and turns of the sand are shown here by intense beading and hand knitted entanglements.

The beauty, heat, rhythm and earthy tones of the African landscape have all stimulated my imagination for this design. All individually hand knitted pieces decorated with beads. From the deserts in the north to the rich earth in the south, Africa's heart beats.
